PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing has announced the Cornell junior
Rachel Padula has been selected as one of 50 athletes chosen to attend the 2018 U.S. Women's Under 23 National Team Selection Camp, to be held in West Windsor, N.J. She is the Big Red's first selection to the camp since
Kelly Albanir in 2016.
Spearheaded by Under 23 Women's Program Director Brett Gorman, the women's camp will select the U23 women's eight, four, quadruple sculls and four with coxswain that will compete at the
2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland. The camp also will select a pair to race at USRowing's Under 23 World Championship Trials in early July. The camp will be held at the Caspersen Rowing Center in West Windsor, N.J. Gorman will be joined by Megan Cooke Carcagno (Duke University head coach), Rob Weber (Hamilton College head coach), former Staley Head Coach for Women's Rowing at Cornell, Hilary Gehman (PNRA) and Kate Bertko (Stanford University lightweight head coach) to coach the selection camp. Last year, the women's eight won a silver medal and the pair won a bronze medal at the U23 championships rowing out of Caspersen.
Invitations to selection camp were based on coach recommendations, past performance in international and domestic racing, competitive performance during training sessions and the athlete's ability to match the style and technique of the crew as determined by the designated coach. In the case of coxswains, invitations to selection camp were based on video and audio tapes of practice and race performances.
