Softball Visits Colgate In Non-Conference Tilt On Tuesday

ITHACA, N.Y. -- After a weekend Ivy League series sweep of Brown that moved Cornell softball into second place in the conference standings, the Big Red will step back out of Ancient Eight action to meet Central New York rival Colgate. The Big Red and the Raiders will meet in a single game on Tuesday, April 10 at Eaton Street Field with first pitch going off at 4 p.m.

Cornell is 4-2 in its last six contests with a four-game Ivy League win streak, its longest since sweeping doubleheaders from Yale and Brown on the road during the 2014 campaign. The Big Red has been solid in all three phases of the game, hitting .289 while sporting a .964 fielding percentage and a 4.21 ERA. Those numbers rank first, first and fifth in the Ancient Eight on the season.

Lisa Nelson ranks second in the Ancient Eight in ERA (2.87) and third in strikeouts (61) while posting a 6-4 record to lead the pitching staff. Classmate Katie Lew (5-8, 4.32 ERA) has also had a strong season in the circle. The duo combined for a four-hit, 1-0 shutout of Brown in the final game of last weekend's series, the first 1-0 triumph for the Big Red since 2013.

Sophomore Erin Rockstroh ranks second in the Ancient Eight in batting average, hitting .459 with 14 RBI as one of five regulars hitting .300 or better. That doesn't include sophomore Bridgette Rooney (.290), who leads the team with four home runs and 16 RBI. Senior Megan Murray is batting .384 with nine doubles and a .424 on-base percentage, while Rebecca Kubena (.368), Kate Jencarelli (.340) and Tori Togashi (.310, three home runs, 13 RBI) have also been raking all spring.

The Raiders are 6-23 on the year (2-4 Patriot League) after dropping two-of-three contests this past weekend at Army West Point. Holly Geranen leads the way with a team-best .292 with four home runs and 16 RBI to take the Colgate triple crown through the team's first 29 games. Colgate is hitting .194 as a group, with the pitching staff posting a solid 4.22 team ERA. Jessica Hay (1-5, 3.97 ERA), Kyle Griswold (1-8, 4.00 ERA) and Bella Crow (3-10, 4.59 ERA) have thrown a majority of the innings this season and are allowing opponents to hit .308. First-year head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers was part of a Bucknell staff that had great success in the Patriot League prior to joining the Raiders' staff.

Cornell leads the all-time series between the teams 16-10-1, including an 8-4 edge in Hamilton. Colgate is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings after the Big Red had won four straight.
