Fuller’s Goal Not Enough as Cornell falls to Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The Cornell men's soccer team suffered its first road loss of the season to Cal State Northridge Friday night falling 3-1.

Cornell dropped to 3-2 on the season, while the Matadors advanced to 5-2.

"I knew that regardless of the result today we were going to grow as a team," said Cornell head coach John Smith. "We played against an extremely mature team today, who also happen to be one of the most dynamic groups we will face all year. There were some fantastic individual performances out there which is extremely exciting to see."

Harry Fuller scored the lone goal of the game for the Big Red in the 75th minute. Fuller impressively wove through several defenders before sending the ball forward to Charles Touche. Touche sent it back to Fuller who fired a shot across his body and into the back of the net. The tally marks the first goal of the season for the sophomore.

Though, the Matadors killed any momentum that the Big Red may have started to stir with a transition goal just 34 seconds after Fuller's tally.

Cal State Northridge opened the scoring just under four minutes into the second half with a goal from Wolfgang Prentice.

Almost immediately following the goal, the Big Red had sequence of good looks. Caleb McAuslan had a shot attempt deflected away by a Matador defender which led a to header sent wide by John Scearce.

Cornell finished with 18 shot attempts compared to Cal State Northridge's 15.

The Big Red takes on Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 5 p.m. PT.
