PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Austyn Cuneo's penalty corner goal in the 65th minute spoiled a brilliant outing by Cornell goalie
Maddie Henry and lifted No. 23 Rutgers to a 1-0 victory over the Big Red this afternoon in Piscataway.
Henry finished with 12 saves, just one off her career-high of 13 from a season ago vs. No. 17 Harvard. The junior goalie backstopped a defense that was under pressure all game as the Scarlet Knights held the 24-3 advantage in shots and had the 14-0 edge in penalty corners.
All three of Cornell's shots were on goal and Rutgers' goalie Gianna Glatz finished with three saves.
Cornell's best chance of the game came in the 44th minute when senior
Gabby DePetro received a pass in the center of the circle and sent a reverse stick aerial shot towards the cage but Glatz got a stick on it to keep the game tied at 0-0.
DePetro,
Grace Royer, and
Juliana Tardiff all finished with one shot on goal.
Cornell (0-3) is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 9 when it welcomes Rider to Marsha Dodson Field for the team's home opener at 1 p.m.
