HANOVER, N.H. -- The No. 7/7 Cornell women's hockey team blanked Dartmouth 3-0 on the road in Thompson Arena Friday night. With the victory the Big Red moves to 10-2-5 overall, to 8-2-1 in ECAC Hockey play and to 4-2-1 against Ivy opponents. The Big Green falls to 3-14-1 on the season, 2-9 in ECAC Hockey play and to 0-6 against Ivy teams.
Lindsay Browning, who made her third appearance of the season, picked up her first career shutout. The sophomore goaltender denied all 22 shots she faced on the evening. Perhaps her most impressive save came on a breakaway in the closing seconds of the first period. Dartmouth's Jennifer Costa skated in uncontested and fired the puck and Browning made a highlight-reel save to preserve the Big Red's 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Paige Lewis netted the game's first goal just over 12 minutes into the contest. The junior forward cleaned up a loose rebound. The initial attempt came from
Gillis Frechette, who was planted in front of the net. Dartmouth goaltender Christine Honor made the save, then
Lenka Serdar attempted a follow up, but Honor made yet another save. Lewis crashed the right side of the net and put home the rebound.
The Big Red wasted little time in the second period adding to its lead. In fact, all it took was 26 seconds. After losing a faceoff in its offensive zone, the Big Red applied solid pressure to regain the puck.
Gillis Frechette gained control at the blue line and fired in a shot that was tipped in front by Serdar, but Honor made the initial save. Though she made the save, Honor was never able to gain complete control of the puck and Serdar continued to poke away at it until it worked its way in for a goal.
Cornell added its final goal of the contest in the waning seconds of the second period. After a few attempts came up empty for the Big Red,
Kristin O'Neill skated around the perimeter of the offensive zone before dropping the puck to
Jaime Bourbonnais. The junior defenseman collected the puck and deked past a Dartmouth defender before sending the puck top shelf with 10.1 seconds remaining.
The Big Red takes on Harvard at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
