ITHACA, N.Y. - Four different members of the Big Red field hockey team scored their first goal of the season to lead Cornell to a 4-0 victory over Lehigh, Wednesday evening.
Cornell exploded in power during the first quarter. The Big Red scored three goals on 10 shots. Freshman
Isabella Palde scored the first goal of the game, and her first collegiate goal, in the fourth minute. Palde took a pass from junior
Grace Royer and changed the direction for a backboard hitter. With 3:06 left in the first quarter, junior
Juliana Tardif redirected a pass from freshman
Natalie Stone for the second Cornell goal. Less than 30 seconds later, Stone scored her first collegiate goal to close out scoring in the first quarter. Cornell went into the first quarter with a 3-0 lead over Lehigh.
The second quarter did not see any goals but Cornell held a strong offensive game with five shots to Lehigh's two. The Mountain Hawk defense held strong, only allowing one shots to make it past them and to the goalie. The Big Red defense held strong and Cornell entered halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The second half saw the final goal of the game. Freshman
Caroline Ramsey took what looked to be a shot from the top of the circle, during a penalty corner, but ended up being a pass. Sophomore
Avery Smith grabbed the pass and pushed the ball into the goal at 33:10. The Big Red went into the final quarter with a 4-0 lead.
The final quarter saw a strong Lehigh defense as none of Cornell's five shots made it across the goal line.
The Big Red held a 25-6 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. Lehigh held a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.
