Heartbreak struck the Big Red on Tuesday as the Cornell men's soccer team was defeated by Albany, 2-1, due in part to a Great Dane goal in the final 15 seconds of the match. Cornell was out-shot by the Great Danes, 13-11 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal. After having just one look on net in the first half, Albany put six shots on goal in the second including its two goals. First year goalkeeper
Brady McSwain made his second career start in net for Cornell making five saves.
Senior
Brady Dickens opened the scoring for Cornell on Tuesday night, fighting through contact to beat the Albany goalkeeper in the 30th minute following a pass from senior
John Scearce. It was Dickens' first goal of the season and his first goal since his freshman year in 2016. Albany knotted things up at one goal apiece in the 59th minute with a goal scored off a deflection. McSwain dove to save a shot off the foot of Sam Philip, but Andrew Weiner was there to clean things up and put the Great Danes on the board. Disaster struck for Cornell in the 89th minute when an Albany breakaway set-up by a controversial no-call led to a game-winning goal for the Great Danes off the boot of Kaio DaSilva.

Cornell owns a 7-5 overall record in 2019 with a spotless 4-0 mark at home and a 3-5 record on the road. The Big Red rank No. 10 nationally in shots per game with 16.33 and are ranked No. 14 in shots on goal with 6.92 per game. Cornell is still searching for a more consistent scoring output, despite ranking No. 45 in Divison I with 1.83 goals per game. Defensively, Cornell ranks No. 113, allowing 1.386 goals per match.

HEAD COACH JOHN SMITH
In his fourth year as head coach,
John Smith owns an 88-59-14 career coaching record with a 26-33-4 mark as head coach of the Big Red. Prior to his time at Cornell, Smith spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Stanford where he helped lead the Cardinal to a 50-20-11 record and a national championship in 2015. In addition to his head coaching experience at Cornell, Smith served as the head coach at Incarnate Word for five seasons from 2006-2010 where he coached the Cardinals to a 62-26-10 record.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BROWN
Brown leads the all-time series against Cornell, 39-22-5. In a series that dates back to Oct. 29, 1949, Cornell won the first meeting between the two sides by a final score of 3-1. Cornell is 3-2 against Brown in the last five meeting between the two sides, includes back-to-back victories over the Bears in 2017 and 2018. Last season, the Big Red defeated Brown by a final tally of 2-1, with goals being scored by

ABOUT THE BEARS
Brown enters Saturday with a 2-8-2 record, sitting in sixth place in the Ivy League with a 1-1-1 record. Coming off a 1-0 overtime loss to Holy Cross, the Bears rank No. 113 in shots per game (11.83) and No. 59 in shots on goal per game (5.67). Scoring wise, Brown ranks No. 179 averaging 0.83 goals per contest. On the defensive end, the Bears have allowed an average of 1.282 goals per game which ranks No. 100 nationally.
James Swomley has been solid in goal for Brown ranking No. 12 in Division I with a .816 save percentage and No. 35 in saves per match (4.44). Swomley has made 40 total saves in nine appearances during his sophomore season. Max Gross (three starts) and Max Waldau (one start) have also seen time in goal for Brown.
Daniel Schiller is the team-leader in points with four (one goal, two assists) and is tied for the team lead in assists with Nicolas Perez. Schiller is tied with nine members of the team for the lead in goals scored with one. Matthew Chow and Malcolm Johnson own Browns two game-winning goals this season.
