ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman
Veer Chotrani won in his collegiate debut and sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington also provided a victory, but the men's squash team suffered a 7-2 loss to Western Ontario on Friday night in its season-opening match at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Göth Errington, who led the team in victories a season ago, secured the first point of the season for 13th-ranked Cornell (0-1). Competing in a familiar No. 6 position, he won in four games to keep the Big Red trailing by one.
As the second wave got going, 15th-ranked Western Ontario (8-1, 2-0 CSA) took control at Nos. 5 and 7, but Chotrani kept Cornell alive. He won a tight third set to take the lead at No. 1, then finished off the match in the fourth. The Mustangs then swept the final wave to beat Cornell for just the third time in the last 12 meetings between the programs.
The Big Red returns to action with two matches on Sunday at Belkin. The day start with a visit from St. Lawrence at noon, then Cornell battles against Hobart at 5 p.m.
