Volleyball Falls to Princeton in Five Set Battle

ITHACA, N.Y. – Despite a match-high and career-best 23 kills from sophomore outside hitter Madison Baptiste, the Big Red volleyball team fell to Princeton in a five set battle, 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12), on Friday night at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.

Baptiste gave it all that she had on Friday evening, pouring in 23 kills and adding 11 digs en route to her third double-double of the season. Individually, Baptiste stole the spotlight, hitting .370 on the match and chipping in two service aces and a pair of block assists. However, it was the Tigers that came out on top as a team, as Cornell dropped to 14-4 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.

Three additional Big Red student-athletes amassed double-digit kills, as Jada Stackhouse and Joanna Chang finished the match with 11 kills apiece, while Jillienne Bennett notched 10. Chang also recorded 19 digs, giving her the fourth double-double of her freshman season.

Stackhouse did everything she could to defend the net, collecting a match-high six block assists and adding a solo block. Avery Hanan and Jenna Phelps also recorded her fair share of blocks, as Hanan posted four block assists and Phelps secured two solo blocks and one block assist.

Lily Barber and Emma Worthington recorded double-doubles on Friday evening as well, doing so in the digs and assists columns. Barber finished the contest with 24 digs and 11 assists, while Worthington collected 16 digs and 22 assists. Zoe Chamness tallied 28 assists.

The Big Red will look to bounce back tomorrow when it hosts Penn in Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
