PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior goalie
Maddie Henry made 11 saves but it was host, Princeton, with the 3-0 win, Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers came out strong scoring the first goal just four minutes into the game. The next nine minutes remained a back-and-forth game as both Cornell and Princeton fought for possession of the ball. The Tigers came back to the Big Red's defensive zone for a final shot and penalty corner in the last two minutes but Henry stopped the shot and the Cornell defense stopped any chance at a second goal in the first period.
Arguably, the best 15 minutes for the Big Red, the second quarter saw just four shots total. Cornell was able to get a shot on goal but it was saved by a Princeton defender. The Big Red held their stance as the Tigers were unable to pass the Cornell defense, but the offense was unable to tie the score as the Big Red entered halftime down, 1-0.
The third quarter saw more offensive action by Cornell as three of its five total shots were made and two of its three total penalty corners were played out, but Princeton was able to stop each Big Red attempt at a goal. With one Tiger goal in the third and a final score by Princeton in the fourth quarter, Cornell fell, 3-0.
The Tigers held the 26-5 advantage in shots, including a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Princeton also held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
The Cornell field hockey team will resume play on November 8 at noon as the Big Red will go against Dartmouth for its final regular-season game.
