HANOVER, N.H. - Sophomore
Claire Jones notched two goals to lead Cornell field hockey to a 3-2 win over host, Dartmouth, Saturday afternoon. The victory closes out the 2019 season with a 10-7 overall and 4-3 Ivy League record for the Big Red.
The Big Green scored the first goal of the game as Carmen Braceras hit a backhand shot passed senior goalie
Maddie Henry. Though Cornell dominated the first half taking seven shots to Dartmouth's three, the Big Red was unable to score in the first 30 minutes.
Freshman
Caroline Ramsey tied the score for Cornell with 6:10 on the third-quarter clock. Ramsey slammed the ball passed the goalie off a shot from the top of the circle. Juniors
Taylor Gladd and
Julianne Mangano assisted the play to bring the score to 1-1. Dartmouth took back the lead with less than a minute left in the quarter and the Big Red once again entered the break down by one goal.
Just two minutes into the final quarter, Jones slid the ball passed the Big Green goalie to tied the score at 2-2. Scoring on a penalty corner, Jones was assisted by Gladd and junior
Grace Royer. Earning first place in season game-winning goals, Jones scored her fifth in 2019 to close out the season with a Big Red victory.
Henry made five saves to secure her 25th career win. With 25 career wins, Henry tied the all-time record for goalie wins; she is tied with her predecessor,
Kelly Johnson (2014-17).
