ITHACA, N.Y. — The men's squash team returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Rochester, the most frequent opponent in program history, for a non-league match at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Cornell (2-1) started its season a couple of weeks ago with three homes matches. After falling to Western Ontario, 7-2 on Nov. 15, the Big Red responded with victories of 6-3 over St. Lawrence and 9-0 against Hobart two days later. The results pushed Cornell down one spot to 14th in the College Squash Association national rankings.
Sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington led the team's opening-weekend performance with three victories. Competing at the No. 1 position, freshman Veer Chortani was the only other member of the team to win his respective match against Western Ontario. He later added a win against Hobart to join sophomore
Charles Culhane, junior
Illia Presman and sophomore
Alex Dworetzky as members of the team with 2-1 records for the weekend.
Rochester is ranked sixth in the nation heading into its season-opening match against Cornell. The Yellowjackets are led by junior Ashley Davis, who was a perfect 18-0 in dual matches last year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CSA Individual Championships to earn first-team All-America status and a final national ranking of fifth.
Even though Rochester is in a different league, the Yellowjackets are the most common opponent in Cornell's program history. The Big Red holds a dominating 56-19 advantage in the all-time series, though Rochester has won nine of last 10 meetings. The lone Cornell victory in that span came by a 6-3 margin on Jan. 23, 2013 at Belkin.
