ITHACA, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey announced Monday that Cornell men's hockey junior
Matthew Galajda has been named the MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week.
Galajda won his ninth consecutive game to start the season with a 28-save shutout of Boston University in Red Hot Hockey on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. It was his first shutout of the season and the 15th in just 65 collegiate starts. Galajda was particularly strong while the game was scoreless in the first period, with one of his 10 saves in the opening frame thwarting a breakaway attempt by Alex Brink.
With the effort, which spearheaded a 2-0 victory at the biennial event in front of more than 15,000 fans, Galajda now ranks second in the nation with a 1.34 goals against average and fifth with a .944 save percentage.
The Big Red has now won five of the league's weekly honors in the five weeks since its season has started. It's Galajda first weekly accolade of the season and the eighth of his career. He has been named the circuit's top goaltender three times in 2017-18 and once last year, and he was tabbed the top rookie three times during his freshman season.
The only undefeated team remaining in the country, Cornell takes a 9-0 record into its final games of the fall semester this weekend. The Big Red travels to Harvard at 7 p.m. Friday and Dartmouth at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
