Women's Tennis Back In Action at Indiana, Xavier

ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team returns to action this weekend with its final non-league road trip, heading to the Midwest to take on Indiana at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Xavier at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Cornell (3-6) was a 4-3 victor its last time out on Feb. 17 against visiting Colorado. Freshman Sarah Campbell paired with classmate Maria Adiaconitei to clinch the doubles point in a tiebreaker at No. 1, then she pushed the Big Red's lead to 3-0 after a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles. The Buffalos stormed back to knot the match at 3 before freshman Valerie Ho completed her rally for a three-set victory and clinching point at No. 4.

The victory was Ho's fourth of the season in singles, which ties her with Campbell for the most on the team. Adiaconitei is the Big Red's most successful entry from the top half of the order, posting a 3-5 mark from positions 1, 2 and 3. Adiaconitei has also teamed with sophomore Ana Elhom to post a 3-2 mark from No. 3 doubles.

Indiana enters the weekend 7-5 after halting a three-match losing skid with a 4-3 win over DePaul on Sunday. Jelly Bozovic clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 4, and the Hoosiers won the doubles point with wins at love from the top two positions. Indiana dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Princeton the day prior. Natalie Whalen is 8-2 from primarily No. 2 singles, and Michelle McKarney is 8-4 from positions 4 and 5.

Xavier improved to 6-2 with its fourth straight victory on Friday night. The Musketeers set the tone by capturing the doubles point against Wright State before securing a 5-2 decision. Kaitlin Ruether is a team-best 6-1 in singles from the bottom two positions. She has won her last four matches, which is tied for the team's active lead with Sophia Abelson (5-3 from Nos. 1 and 2). The Musketeers will start the weekend with matches against Dayton and Eastern Tennessee State.

This will mark just the second all-time meeting between Cornell and its opponents this weekend, Indiana won, 6-1, in a visit to Reis Tennis Center on Feb. 23, 2018. The Big Red's only previous clash with the Musketeers came on March 23, 2005, with Cornell notching a 4-3 victory in Honolulu, Hawaii.
