#10 Men's Hockey Blasts Union, 4-0, To Force Game 3 Sunday

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's hockey team fights to play at least one more day.

Sophomore forward Brenden Locke and senior forward Mitch Vanderlaan scored 41 seconds apart early in the first period, and the Big Red stayed on point from start to finish in a 4-0 shutout of Union on Saturday night in Game 2 of an ECAC Hockey Championship quarterfinal series at Lynah Rink. With the series now tied, 1-1, the teams will meet for a winner-take-all Game 3 at 4 p.m. back at Lynah.

Sophomore goaltender Matthew Galajda made 15 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the second in the postseason during his collegiate career. While there when called upon, Cornell (18-9-4) made sure that it didn't happen too often — thanks in large part to charging out of the gates with a pair of goals inside the first 2 minutes, 2 seconds.

Junior forward Noah Bauld and sophomore defenseman Alex Green tacked on goals in the final two periods, both scoring for the first time this year. The strikes also came with the teams playing four-on-four, giving Cornell five goals on the season in such scenarios against just one goal from its opponents.
