ITHACA, N.Y. -- Despite outshooting Rensselaer 49-10, the No. 4 Cornell women's hockey team fell to the Engineers 2-0 in game two the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal.
Â
Much like in the first game of the best-of-three series, the Big Red had a plethora of chances. Though this time Rensselaer goaltender Lovisa Selander, the NCAA's all-time leader in saves, stood even taller stopping all 50 shots she faced. The senior, who was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award this year, stopped 60 of the 62 shots she saw in game one.
The Engineers got on the board just over five and a half minutes into the contest with a goal from Blake Orosz. Kendra Farole sent the puck up the length of the ice and connected with Orosz who brought it into the zone uncontested and fired it into the back of the net.
Â
Despite the early deficit the Big Red worked to find more opportunities, while limiting Rensselaer's. The Big Red had 20 shots on net in the second period and held the Engineers to just two.
Â
Cornell opted to pull
Marlène Boissonnault with 2:44 remaining in the contest for the extra skater. The Big fired off a total of six shot attempts before Orosz put home an empty-netter to give the Engineers the two-goal advantage.
