VESTAL, N.Y. -- Cornell slammed three home runs and nearly overcame a five-run deficit in game one, but Binghamton was able to close out a non-conference doubleheader sweep with 9-8 and 10-1 victories on Wednesday afternoon at Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats improved to 10-12, while Cornell slipped to 3-16.
Game One
Cornell scored seven straight runs after falling behind 5-0, but the Bearcats rallied for three in the bottom of the seventh inning to top the Big Red 8-7 in the opener.
The Big Red used a five-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by
Olivia Rooney, and then slammed a pair of solo, back-to-back home runs by
Emily McKinney and
Erin Rockstroh in the seventh to stake the visitors to a 7-5 lead.
The Bearcats weren't done yet, and the home team pounded out five hits before Chloe Morgan hit a walk-off RBI single with one out for the victory.
Ashley Delany was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a pair of walks while hurling a complete game in the circle. McKinney added a pair of hits and Rockstroh reached base three times with the homer and two walks.
Game Two
Freshman
Miranda Lawson slammed a leadoff homer to start the contest, but Binghamton rallied in a big way with an eight-run third and cruised to a 10-1, five-inning victory.
Allison Kerce,
Bridgette Rooney and
Hanna Crist each had a hit, while
Katie Lew struck out five in her four innings of work.
The Big Red returns to action when it faces Yale in a three-game Ivy series beginning with two games on Saturday, March 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Niemand*Robison Field.
