Yale's Big Bats Lead To Softball Doubleheader Sweep

ITHACA, N.Y. -- A powerful Yale offense was clicking on all cylinders, scoring 27 runs on 33 hits in sweeping a doubleheader from Cornell with 12-5 and 15-5 victories on Saturday afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. Cornell fell to 3-18 (2-3 Ivy), while Yale improved to 10-16 (5-3 Ivy).

Game One
Yale jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first and never trailed, though a five-run fifth inning by the Big Red kept Cornell alive in a 12-5 loss.

Allison Kerce and Emily McKinney each had a pair of hits and Bridgette Rooney drove in two as Cornell avoided being run-ruled after trailing 12-0 entering the bottom of the fifth. Hanna Crist also had an RBI double.

Ashley Delany went the distance in the circle, taking her fourth loss of the season.

Terra Jerpbak earned the complete game win in the circle, scattering seven hits in improving to 6-5 on the season. Olivia Vinyard was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Bulldogs, while Sydney Grobman, Kortney Ponce and Annie Tarte also had two hits apiece.

Game Two
The Big Red slammed three home runs, but 12 total Yale runs in the second and third innings allowed the visitor to complete the doubleheader sweep by a 15-5 margin.

Allison Kerce, Bridgette Rooney and Emily Muniz each had two hits, with Kerce and Rooney hitting homers. They were joined by Hanna Crist in circling the bases. Katie Lew went the distance for Cornell in the circle, striking out four.

Yale pounded out 20 hits and also drilled three homers, including a pair by Carlin Hagmaier. Katie Tews was 4-for-4 with three runs scored, Hagmaier drove in five and both Olivia Vinyard and Sydney Grobman had three hits each. All nine Bulldogs had at least one hit and seven had multi-hit days. Nic Conway picked up the victory in the circle with a complete game, striking out seven without issuing a walk in evening her record at 4-4.
