SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Miranda Hearn hurled a three-hit shutout and Syracuse topped Cornell 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Skytop Stadium. The Big Red fell to 10-33 overall with the loss, while SU improved to 21-28.
Hearn struck out a career-high eight and walked three in picking up her third win of the year in the circle. She was in complete control, retiring the side three times. The Big Red did load the bases in the third with two outs, but Hearn picked up a strikeout to end the Big Red rally.
Katie Lew took the hard-luck loss, hurling a complete-game four-hitter. All four of the SU hits went for extra-bases, including a first inning home run by Alexis Kaiser that it turned out was all the Orange needed.
Cornell managed just three hits, with reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week
Ashley Delany reaching base twice with a single and a walk.
Miranda Lawson doubled and
Emily McKinney also had a hit, as the Big Red left six on base.
Syracuse scored two insurance runs in the sixth to all but put the game away. An RBI double by Hannah Dossett and a sacrifice fly by Lailoni Mayfield plated the final runs.
The Big Red closes out the regular season with a three-game Ivy League road series at Harvard beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m.
