Crimson Takes Two From Softball On Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Big innings in both games lifted Harvard to a Saturday softball doubleheader sweep of Cornell, taking game one 8-0 in five innings before rallying in game two for an 8-4 victory at Soldiers Field. The Big Red fell to 10-35 (5-15 Ivy), while the Crimson moved to 22-17 (15-5 Ivy).

Game 1 I Harvard 8, Cornell 0
The Crimson scored eight runs in the third and that was all she wrote in a five-inning victory for the home team.

Cornell had four hits in the contest, including a 1-for-2 afternoon for Allison Kerce, including a double.

Harvard had eight hits, all coming in the third inning, to lift Katie Duncan to her 15th win of the season in the circle. Seven different players drove in at least one run, with Kaitlyn Schiffhauer plating two with a double.

Game 2 I Harvard 8, Cornell 4
Bridgette Rooney hit a two-run homer and the visitors led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but Harvard struck for seven runs in their final two at bats to collect an 8-4 triumph.

It was Rooney's 24th career home run, good for sixth on the school's all-time list. She also walked twice.

Rooney's sister, Olivia, was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ashley Delany drove in a run and reached base with both a hit and a walk.

Lisa Nelson allowed just one hit over three innings in the circle before the Crimson broke through against the bullpen.

Kaitlyn Schiffhauer went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored. Katie Duncan picked up the win in the nightcap, scattering four hits and three earned runs over six innings of work.

The two teams will meet in the Big Red's season finale tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. for a single game.
