Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 2 Yale Outlasts No. 8 Men’s Lacrosse In Ivy Semifinal

NEW YORK – Cornell freshman goalie Chayse Ierlan matched a career-high with 17 saves and junior attackman Jeff Teat registered five goals, matching Steve Mock '13 for the most ever by a Big Red player in the Ivy League Tournament, but it wasn't enough as the No. 2 Yale men's lacrosse team dominated the middle portion of the second semifinal to claim a 15-10 victory this evening at Wien Stadium in New York City.

Teat scored the Big Red's first three goals of the contest, with his first of the day coming just under four minutes into the game to cut Yale's early lead to 2-1. That first goal was another milestone in an already impressive career as it was the 100th of his career, making him just the seventh player in Ivy League history, and third at Cornell, to register 100 goals and 100 assists in a career. He is just the 11th player in Big Red history to reach 100 career goals, and only the fourth to do so as a junior. The goal also allowed him to join Mike French as the only two players in Cornell history to post 30 goals and 30 assists in a season three times during their career.

The Big Red stayed within striking distances early in the contest as Teat completed the early hat trick to make it a 5-3 game at the 10:22 mark of the second quarter, but consecutive goals by Matt Brandau opened up a 7-1 Bulldog run, which ended with a goal by Teat.

With Yale leading by score of 13-5 early in the fourth quarter, Cornell made a late push, scoring four straight to make it a 13-9 game with 6:28 to play, but a Big Red penalty led to a man-up goal for Yale and effectively ended the Cornell threat. During the run, Cornell got a pair of goals from John Piatelli, a final tally by Teat, and the first career goal for Joseph Bartolotto III, who put in an incredible individual effort and scored from his knees after being knocked to the ground.

Jake McCulloch scored the Big Red's final goal of the game, off a pass from Jonathan Donville, to account for the 15-10 final. McCulloch finished the game with one goal and one assist to join Teat and Piatelli as the only Big Red with multipoint games.

Yale dominated possession as the Ivy League Player of the Year, TD Ierlan, won 21-of-27 face-offs and finished with 16 ground balls and one goal.

Brandau led the Bulldog offense with five goals and one assist, while Jackson Morrill scored three goals and added three assists.

With the loss, Cornell slips to 10-5 on the season and will need to wait until Sunday night's NCAA Tournament selection show to see if its season will continue.
