Women's Soccer Announces Nine Newcomers

ITHACA, N.Y. – Women's soccer head coach Dwight Hornibrook announced Monday the nine student-athletes set to join Cornell for the upcoming 2019 season.

The newcomers will join a team that returns 20 letter winners from last year and looks to again climb the Ivy League ladder. The Big Red's additions arrive from a variety of regions, including imports from all four time zones in the contiguous United States.
 
The Big Red is expected to announce its 2019 schedule in the coming weeks.
 

Incoming Player Biographies

Sara DeGraw
Midfielder — 5-foot-4 — Rye, N.Y. (Rye HS / NYSC Development Academy)
Hornibrook on DeGraw: "Sara is a quick winger who has the ability to get past defenders and provide good service to the strikers."
 
Isabella DeLew
Defender — 5-foot-9 — Oakton, Va. (Oakton HS / McLean Youth Soccer)
Hornibrook on DeLew: "Bella is a very good defender with a solid left foot. She will bring an experienced head on young shoulders to our defense, as she is poised and calm under pressure."
 
Annika DeStefano
Midfielder — 6-foot — Evanston, Ill. (Evanston Township HS / FC United)
Hornibrook on DeStefano: "Annika has a very good soccer IQ to accompany her 6-foot frame. She can play as both an attacker and defender, and she should provide a scoring threat due to her height."
 
Ashley Durik
Forward — 5-foot-3 — Louisville, Ky. (Sacred Heart Academy / Kentucky Fire Juniors)
Hornibrook on Durik: "Ashley is a quick and skillful attacking midfield player.  She is very creative and has an eye for the goal as well. Ashley was voted the top high school player in Kentucky."
 
Liza Mariner
Forward — 5-foot-9 — Albuquerque, N.M. (Albuquerque Academy / Rio Rapids)
Hornibrook on Mariner: "Liza is an excellent athlete who has been scoring goals at every level. She scored 160 goals in high school. Liza will bring great intensity and speed to the Big Red."
 
Kendall Patten
Midfielder — 5-foot-6 — New Canaan, Conn. (New Canaan HS / FC Connecticut)
Hornibrook on Patten: "Kendall is a steady player who is very tactically aware and sees the game well. She makes good use of her teammates, and she's effective both on the attack and on defense."
 
Nicole Shulman
Goalkeeper — 5-foot-7 — San Mateo, Calif.  (Aragon HS / San Jose Earthquakes)
Hornibrook on Shulman: "Nicole is an outstanding young goalkeeper who is very good technically and distributes the ball well. She has played for Israel internationally."
 
Emily St. John
Defender/Midfielder — 5-foot-6 — Needham, Mass. (Noble and Greenough / Scorpions SC)
Hornibrook on St. John: "Emily has played well in couple of positions as midfielder and outside back. She will be a solid contributor in both positions."
 
Sydney Waiters
Defender — 5-foot-10 — Miami, Fla. (American Heritage School / Sunrise SC)
Hornibrook on Waiters: "Sydney is a very athletic center back who will cause problems for opposing forwards. She shows excellent composure."
