Big Red Women's Ice Hockey Adds Six Newcomers to the 2019-20 Squad

ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell women's ice hockey head coach Doug Derraugh announced the addition of six freshmen to the team's roster. The group includes four forwards, one defender and one player who can play both defense and forward.

Sydney Breza - F - 5-9
(Shattuck St. Mary's and Breck School) Minnetrista, Minn.
Prior to Cornell

  • Played five years of varsity ice hockey at Shattuck St. Mary's and Breck School.
  • Two-time national champions with Shattuck St. Mary's in 2017 and 2018.
  • All-Minnesota in 2016.
  • U12 A Minnesota State Champion.
  • Played club with the 2000 Minnesota Machine.
  • Also played soccer and lacrosse.

Izzy Daniel - F - 5-5
(The Blake School Minneapolis) Minneapolis, Minn.
Prior to Cornell
  • Played four years of varsity hockey at The Blake School Minneapolis.
  • Member of the two-time Minnesota Ice Hockey State Champion team (2016 and 2017).
  • 2018 and 2019 team MVP
  • Three-time all-conference (2017, 2018, 2019)
  • Earned All-Minnesota State in 2018 & 2019 honors and All-Minnesota State Honorable Mention honors in 2017.
  • Named a 2019 Ms. Hockey Finalist.

Kaitlyn Isaac - D - 5-4
(Wallaceburg District Secondary School) Wallaceburg, Ont.
Prior to Cornell
  • Played club ice hockey with the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins (PWHL).
  • Earned the silver medal in 2017 with Team Ontario in the U18 Women's National Championships.
  • Was invited to the Hockey Canada National Women's U18 Selection Camp.
  • Also played four years of soccer and three years of volleyball at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.
  • Soccer team won the LKSSAA Championship all four years of high school.
  • Soccer team captain in 2018 and 2019, team MVP in 2018.

Paige Kenyon - D/F - 5-9
(Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School) Ancaster, Ont.
Prior to Cornell
  • Played three years of varsity ice hockey at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School, including two as captain.
  • All-Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations in 2016, 2017 and 2019.
  • Played on the Stoney Creek Junior Sabres (PWHL) and earned the alternate captain title for the 2018-2019 season.
  • Won the Final Four and Provincial Silver awards with the Stoney Creek Sabres in 2019.

Elana Zingas - F  5-7
(Grosse Pointe High School) Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
Prior to Cornell
  • Played club ice hockey for Belle Tire.
  • Named the assistant captain in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
  • Member of the USA Hockey U16 Michigan State and National Champion team in 2017.
  • Michigan State Champion in 2018 and 2019, and a USA National Competitor in 2018 and 2019.
  • Also played two years of varsity lacrosse at Grosse Pointe High School.
 

Ellie Zweber - F - 5-5
(Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney High School) Santa Barbara, Calif.
Prior to Cornell

  • Played three years of varsity ice hockey with Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, N.Y.
  • Tier 1 USA National Hockey Championships tournament appearances in 2017 and 2019.
  • U16 New York State Hockey Championship team in 2017
  • U19 New York State Hockey Championship team in 2019
