About the Big Red:

•  Cornell is 2-0 for just the third time in 14 years, and it has already doubled its win total from a season ago thanks to victories over Iona and Siena.
•  Freshman midfielder Ashley Durik scored two second-half goals in her collegiate debut to power the Big Red to a 3-1 win over Iona on Friday night in its season opener.
•  Durik became the first Cornell freshman to score twice in the first game of a season in 22 years. The last to accomplish the feat was Miki Agrawal on Sept. 13, 1997 in a 6-2 victory over Columbia.
•  Sophomore forward Jadyn Matthews opened the scored for Cornell in the sixth minute after taking a pass from junior defender Naomi Jaffe. It was the first collegiate goal for Matthews, who spent most of her debut season in the defensive midfield.
•  Cornell continued its success in season openers, improving to 22-11-5 in its first games of the program's first 38 seasons. The Big Red is now 5-1-1 in its last seven debuts.
•  Jaffe then scored the only goal needed in Monday's 1-0 victory over Siena on a looping shot from the right flank that banked in off the far post. Nicole Long earned the assist for her first collegiate point.
•  Freshman Nicole Shulman and senior Chrissy Mayer each started one game in goal, with Mayer making five stops against the Saints for her first collegiate shutout.
•  After recording an assist on Cornell's final goal Friday, senior forward Kennedy Yearby remains Cornell's active scoring leader with four goals and four assists for 12 points.
•  Senior central defender Abby Adams is the squad's lone returning All-Ivy League winner from 2018. Adams was voted onto the All-Ivy second team by opposing coaches, who frequently saw Adams matched up against their most potent attackers.

Head Coach Dwight Hornibrook:

•  Dwight Hornibrook is in his third season as the program's sixth head coach after serving as an assistant coach for five years.
•  Hornibrook had 17 years of head coaching experience with the men's soccer programs at Houghton and SUNY Cortland before joining the Cornell women's soccer team. He has helped the Big Red win 35 games over the last eight years and now has an overall record as a head coach of 187-137-34.
•  Hornibrook is flanked by a new staff of assistant coaches this season. Rob Ferguson and Kelsey Ferguson join the Big Red as assistant coaches after successful stints building WNY Flash Academy, and Vanessa Romero has come on board as a volunteer assistant coach after a decorated playing career at SUNY Cortland.

A Call To Armbands:

•  Seniors Karli Berry and Chrissy Mayer, and junior Naomi Jaffe will serve as the Big Red's tri-captains this season. It is the first time any of the trio has donned an armband in their collegiate careers.
•  Jaffe is the first non-senior to serve as a captain for Cornell since Claire MacManus '15 during the 2013 season.
•  Cornell, which has six seniors, has more underclassmen on its roster than upperclassmen for a third straight year.

National Appeal:

•  The Big Red has 14 different states and the District of Columbia represented on the team roster of 28.
•  For a third straight year, the most represented state on the Big Red is California – which is called home by five players. The other states with multiple representatives are New Jersey (four), Florida (four), New York (two), Connecticut (two) and Virginia (two), plus there is one each from Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.
•  Though there are no Canadians among the players, head coach Dwight Hornibrook is native to the New Brunswick capital of Fredericton.

About Bucknell:

•  The Bison sit at 1-3 after 2-0 loss to nationally-ranked Georgetown on Sunday. It was Bucknell's third straight loss after a season-opening 2-1 overtime win over Robert Morris in which it outshot the visitors by a 21-4 margin.
•  Junior defender Chloe Christakos leads the team in scoring with three points on a goal against Wright State on Aug. 29 and a secondary assist on senior forward Gabby Bair's game-winner in extra time against Robert Morris. The first goal in that game for Bucknell was from freshman midfielder Petie Nessetta.
•  Freshman Kaylee Donnelly (1-3, 1.44 goals against average, .778 save percentage) has started all four games in goal for Bucknell.

The Series vs. Bucknell:

•  The Big Red owns a 10-6-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Bison, though all six of Bucknell's victories have come in the teams' last seven meetings.
•  The teams haven't met since a 1-0 Bucknell victory on Sept. 10, 2011 in Ithaca.
•  In its last trip to Lewisburg, Cornell won a 2-0 affair on Sept. 19, 2010.

About St. Bonaventure:

•  The Bonnies enter Friday's game against Valparaiso at 2-2 following a 3-1 loss Monday Iona. Bella May scored her team-leading second goal in the 19th minute before the Gaels rattled off three unanswered tallies against senior goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm (2-2, 1.50 goals against average, .700 save percentage, SO).
•  A 3-1 win over Youngstown State on Aug. 25 was St. Bonaventure's best offensive output in nearly a full year after it posted a 2-13-4 record last season.

The Series vs. St. Bonaventure:

•  The Big Red has a 11-4-1 lead in the all-time series with the Bonnies, including a 2-1 overtime victory to start last season. Naomi Jaffe scored her first collegiate goal to force extra time, then Kaili Gregory slotted in a free kick in the 100th minute for the golden goal.

Up Next:

•  Cornell has a full week of rest before traveling to Albany for a 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 match against the reigning America East champion Great Danes.
