NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Ryan Brown, Paige daCosta, and James Huang all secured multiple individual event wins for the Big Red men's swimming and diving team on Saturday morning, but it wasn't enough to help Cornell overcome Yale, as the Big Red fell to the Bulldogs, 186-114, in New Haven, Conn.

With the loss, the Big Red dropped to 3-5 overall and 1-5 in conference action, while Yale improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League.

Senior tri-captain Brown made the most of his appearances in the breaststroke events, winning both the 100-yard breaststroke (56.75) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.69). Brown had good company in the 200-yard breaststroke, as Jacob Bass notched a top-three finish, touching the wall third in 2:07.94.

Huang emerged victorious in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the race in 1:48.92. He did not stop there, however, also picking up a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (49.14).

daCosta's reign during his freshman season continued on Saturday, as he notched at least three individual-event wins for the third-straight meet. daCosta collected victories in the 100-yard backstroke (48.98), 200-yard backstroke (1:48.41), and 200-yard IM (1:50.96).

With daCosta at the lead, the Big Red went 1-2 in the 200-yard IM, as Ricardo Martinez finished just behind in 1:51.54. This top-three finish was just one of three for Martinez on Saturday, as he also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.23) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (46.51).

Jack Mahoney and Jameson Crandell recorded top-three finishes of their own, as Mahoney finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.79) and Crandell placed third in the 3-meter diving with 304.65 points.

The Big Red men's swimming and diving team will return to Ithaca, N.Y. to host Brown on Jan. 24-25 in its final meet before the Ivy League Championships on Feb. 26-29. The diving events are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start on Friday, Jan. 24, with the swimming events following on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Teagle Pool. The meet will also be the Big Red's senior day.
