PHILADELPHIA — Sophomore
Alex Dworetzky won a pair of matches from the No. 7 position, but the men's squash team was handed a pair of 7-2 losses by Virginia and Drexel on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Cornell (3-6), which is ranked 14th in the nation by the College Squash Association, started its trip with a neutral-site match against the Cavaliers at Penn Squash Center. Eighth-ranked Virginia (10-3) took a 2-1 lead out of the first rotation despite Dworetzky's three-game sweep at No. 7. Sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington then survived an hour-long match of four games at No. 5 to give the Big Red its second point, but the Cavaliers went on to sweep the final rotation to clinch.
On Sunday at Drexel's Kline & Specter Squash Center, Dworetzky once again got the Big Red on the board – this time with a lengthy four-game affair that he locked down with extra-point victories in the third and fourth. Senior
Jared Scherl later won in four at No. 9 for the other point against the fifth-ranked Dragons (7-3).
Senior
James Paolella also competed in the exhibition match at No. 10 both days, winning in both.
Cornell's travels continue next weekend with a couple neutral-site matches at Yale's Brady Squash Center in New Haven, Connecticut. The Big Red opens the weekend against George Washington at 2 p.m. Saturday and Franklin & Marshall at 11 a.m. Sunday.
