The Cornell women's ice hockey team hosts Colgate in the first of two games over the weekend. On Saturday (Jan. 25), the Big Red will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. for the second game against the Raiders.
Colgate
• Though Colgate is not ranked, the Raiders received one vote for the USCHO.com poll and two votes the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.
• With an overall record of 13-9-4, the Raiders a
re 7-4-1 within the ECAC Hockey league.
• Colgate has been able to beat ECAC Hockey foes, Quinnipiac (11/2), Brown (11/15), Yale (11/16), Rensselaer (1/10), Union (1/11), Harvard (1/17) and Dartmouth (1/18) with losses to Princeton (twice) (11/1 & 12/7), Clarkson (11/8) and Quinnipiac (12/6). • The singular in-conference tie came against St. Lawrence (11/9). Outside of the conference, the Raiders have found victory over Holy Cross (9/21), Mercyhurst (10/4), Syracuse (10/18-19), Connecticut (10/25) and RIT (11/26).
• Freshman forward Danielle Serdachny leads the team with 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists. Most recently, the rookie earned two assists against Union.
• Serdachny currently sits 50th in the nation in goals per game (.58) and 68th in points per game (.85). She is 10th in points per game among all freshmen.
• Freshman forward Sammy Smigliani follows with 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists. Over the last weekend, Smigliani scored a goal against Dartmouth and notched a goal and an assist against Harvard.
• Smigliani currently sits 60th in the nation in assists per game (.42) and 93rd in points per game (.77). She is 14th in points per game among all freshmen.
• Freshman Darcie Lappan and junior Malia Schneider are the final two sitting in the top-100 for points-, assists-, and goals per game. The two sit 90th (.35) and 99th (.31) for assists per game, respectively.
• Sophomore defender Tanner Gates is ranked 31st in points per game (.58) among all defenders to lead the Raiders' defense.
• Senior Liz Auby leads the goalies with 1312:17 in goal. With 529 saves and 42 goals against, Auby has a .926 save percentage and 1.92 goals against average. The four-year goalie ranks 13th in the nation in goals against average and 14th in save percentage. She is currently tied for fifth with four shutouts.
• As a team, the Raiders are 19th in the nation in scoring offense (2.85), 16th in scoring defense (2.19) and 15th in scoring margin (.65).
• Colgate's power-play team ranks 28th in the nation (13.3%) and the penalty kills team is third with a 92.6% kill rate.
The Series
• Cornell and Colgate first met during the 1973-74 season with the Big Red leading the all-time series, 41-15-4.
• Last season, the two met for the 20th and 21st game as Cornell swept the weekend with a 4-2 win on both Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 and Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019. Of the eight goals scored, five were scored by current members on the team: junior Maddie • Mills and seniors
