NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The men's squash team has made a case to move up the College Squash Association national rankings after securing a pair of upset victories this weekend at Brady Squash Center.
Cornell (5-6), which is currently ranked 14th by the CSA, defeated 10th-ranked George Washington on Saturday, 5-4. It was the same score on Sunday, when the Big Red upended #13 Franklin & Marshall.
In the weekend's first match for the Big Red, freshman
Veer Chotrani (No. 1), freshman
Humza Khan (No. 7) and senior
Jared Scherl (No. 9) recorded three-game sweeps. The Colonials got their points from the strength of its lineup, in positions 2-4, plus a five-game victory at No. 8. But the Big Red got four-game victories from the middle of the lineup, with sophomore Nicholas Göth Errington and junior
Illia Presman prevailing. The victory evens Cornell's all-time series with GW, 5-5.
Sunday was much of the same, with the Big Red gets repeat victories from four of its player. Freshman
Humza Khan had the other point for Cornell, winning in three at No. 7. It marks the fourth time in the last five meetings between the Big Red and the Diplomats that the match ended 5-4. Cornell has won three of those tilts.
Cornell returns to Ivy League play for the rest of its regular season, starting with a match against Dartmouth at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belkin International Squash Courts in Ithaca.
