ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's swimming and diving team had four student-athletes post at least one individual event win, and despite recording 19 top-three finishes as a team, the Big Red fell to Brown, 171.5-126.5, on Saturday at the Teagle Pool in Ithaca, N.Y.
Competing in his final meet at home on Senior Day,
Cyrus Morrison made the most out of his last time racing in the Teagle Pool, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 44.94. He was joined in the top-three by
Jeremy Marcin, who notched a third-place finish with a time of 45.99.
James Huang and
Paige daCosta followed suit, each notching a pair of individual event victories. Huang won both the 100-yard butterfly (49.26) and 200-yard butterfly (1:49.49), displaying his dominance in the butterfly discipline. He had company in both races, as Marcin finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (49.50) for his second top-three finish of the day and
Min Zhi Chua placed third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.80).
Paige daCosta swept the backstroke events, emerging victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (48.93) and 200-yard backstroke (1:49.10). Senior
Dylan Curtis also posted a strong performance in the 100-yard backstroke, placing third in 50.33.
Brett Hébert picked up a win of his own in the 1-meter diving, finishing first with 312.00 points. He then followed this performance up with a second-place finish in the 3-meter diving, tallying 314.17 points.
Seniors
Matthew Daniel,
Ryan Brown, and
Jack Mahoney all took time in the spotlight on Senior Day. Daniel posted two top-three finishes, placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:34.22) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.27). Brown notched a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.16), while Mahoney placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (20.66).
The Cornell men's swimming and diving team will compete in what it's been training for all season when it hits the water next at the 2020 Ivy League Championships. Hosted by Harvard, the championship meet will take place on Feb. 26-29 in Cambridge, Mass.
