#10 Women's Squash Preps For Kurtz Cup Rematch vs. #11 Dartmouth

1/28/2020 9:30:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's squash team turns its attention back to Ivy League play for its last four matches of the regular season, starting with an 11 a.m. Saturday match against visiting Dartmouth at Belkin International Squash Courts.

Cornell (5-6, 1-2 Ivy League) is currently ranked 10th nationally by the College Squash Association, but the result of Saturday's match could have the Big Red on the move. Dartmouth (4-4, 0-3) is tabbed 11th in the first rankings of 2020, though it could be on the move up after last weekend's 5-4 upset of #6 Drexel. That creates a possible jumble of the teams ranked #6 through #11. A victory Saturday against the Big Green could keep the Big Red from falling to the bottom of that heap, if it can then follow that up with another win over current #8 Penn on Feb. 7.

But first, Cornell takes on a Dartmouth squad that's won three straight. The strength of the Big Green lies in its depth, with Caroline Mollenkopf leading the team with a 7-1 record from near the bottom of the ladder. Four other members of the team have won four matches apiece, sprinkled throughout the lineup. Saturday's match will be the first between the teams since the final of last year's Kurtz Cup – the 'B' Flight of the CSA's National Team Championships. Cornell avenged a regular-season loss to Dartmouth with a 6-3 victory on Feb. 24, 2019. The Big Red held a 4-3 lead with two matches still on the court. Both seniors Madison Miles (No. 4) and Lucy Martin (No. 5) would prevail to lead Cornell to its third Kurtz Cup. Cornell's all-time record in the series against Dartmouth now stands at 14-15.

Cornell enters the match after 9-0 sweeps of George Washington and Franklin & Marshall last weekend in New Haven, Connecticut. Sophomore Sivasangari Subramaniam remains unscathed on the year, now standing at 9-0 from the top position. Classmate Lily Zelov competes exclusively in the No. 2 position with a 6-5 record, which ties her with freshmen McKenna Stoltz, Ania LaDow and Mia Krishnamurthy for second on the team in individual victories.
