ITHACA, N.Y. -- Coming off a dominant 47-0 shutout win over Penn State, the Cornell football team steps up in class when it hit the road to visit No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 28, 1939 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Approximately 60,000 are expected to take in a battle of unbeatens with national championship aspirations. The Buckeyes (3-0) have not allowed a single point in two home games, outscoring Missouri (19-0) and Northwestern (13-0) by a combined 32-0 margin.
The Big Red is scheduled to depart from Willard Straight Hall on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. where 1,200 Cornellians are expected to gather and 200 set to follow the Big Red by train to Ohio. The Big Red will entrain with 35 players out of the Lehigh Valley Station at 8 p.m.
Cornell has outscored Syracuse (19-6), Princeton (20-7) and Penn State (47-0) 86-13 in its 3-0 start. The Big Red is averaging 221.7 rushing yards with eight touchdowns on the ground offensively. On defense, Cornell allowed just 54 yards and one first down to the Nittany Lions and is surrendering 151 per game on average.
All-America candidates are all over the field for the Big Red with tackle Nick Drahos leading the way. Center Bud Finneran, ends Kirk Hershey and Carl Spang and back Mort Landsberg lead the way, while Alva Kelley, Lou Conti, Howie Dunbar, Alva Kelley, Walt Matuszak, Hal McCullough, Walt Scholl and Fred West are also standouts to watch for in Big Red colors.
With rain in the forecast heading into the weekend, it's unclear who would hold an advantage.
