#4 Women's Ice Hockey Defeats St. Lawrence, 3-2

ITHACA, N.Y. - Sophomore Gillis Frechette scored the eventual game-winning goal and notched an assist to lead the Cornell women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence, Saturday evening.

Senior Jaime Bourbonnais got the ball rolling with the Big Red's first goal. At the midway mark of the first period, junior Maddie Mills took a shot on goal. Senior Amy Curlew tipped the rebounded and Bourbonnais snuck the puck in, behind the goalie, off her tip.

Just over three minutes later, senior Grace Graham added to Cornell's lead with the second goal of the night. Originally starting from the defensive zone, Frechette tapped the puck to senior Paige Lewis just after the blue line. Lewis then sent the puck to senior Grace Graham, who then took some time to find the shot. Graham ended up dumping the puck into the net from the right faceoff circle.

With 11:33 on the second-period clock, St. Lawrence stole a point back with a goal from freshman Julia Gosling. Just after closing a successful penalty kill, the Saints made a breakaway to lead to the score.

At 13:40, Frechette scored the Big Red's third goal to gain back the two-goal lead. Junior goalie Lindsay Browning stopped a potential icing call and made a long pass to Lewis, who was at the offensive blue line. Lewis quickly tapped the puck to Frechette for the Cornell goal.

Heading into the third period, the Big Red held a 3-1 lead over the Saints. As the game was ending, St. Lawrence tallied its final goal with just seven seconds left.

Browning made 23 saves, while the Cornell offense outshot the Saints 34-25.

The Big Red heads on the road for two weekends before returning home. On Friday, February 7, Cornell will take on Harvard before heading to New Hampshire on Saturday to face Dartmouth.
