ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell men's tennis advanced to the championship match of the 2020 ECAC Indoor Tennis Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 15, defeating Dartmouth by a final score of 4-1 in the Reis Tennis Center.
 
With a win on Saturday, Cornell improves its dual meet record to 5-1 overall. It's Dartmouth's first loss of the season as they entered the day with a 9-0 record. The Big Red will meet undefeated Harvard (9-0) in the finals of the ECAC Championship at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16. Cornell is searching for its first ECAC Championship since the 2012-13 season after advancing to the finals for the first time since 2016-17.
 
Cornell opened the dual by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The Big Red also claimed wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles going unfinished. Cornell's lone loss of the afternoon came at No. 2 singles.
 
The doubles pairing of Evan Bynoe and Pietro Rimondini opened the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles, defeating Anders Gibbons and Dan Martin by a score of 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Lev Kazakov and Daniel Soyfer picked up a 6-3 win over Casey Ross and Peter Conklin.
 
Rimondini continued a strong day of play by opening up singles play with a win at No. 5, besting Gibbons in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Dartmouth briefly cut into Cornell's lead following the match at No. 2 singles, the lone loss of the day for the Big Red.
 
Cornell extended its lead to 3-1 over Dartmouth with Eero Vasa's win at No. 1 singles, where he used a score of 7-6(2), 6-3, to defeat Charlie Broom. Soyfer closed the match out for Cornell at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 7-6(7) victory over Pierce Widdecombe.
