Women’s Tennis Closes Weekend with Loss to Boston College

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's tennis dropped its second match of the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 16, losing to Boston College by a final score of 6-1 from a neutral site in Binghamton, N.Y.
 
A loss on Sunday drops Cornell's record to 1-9, while Boston College improves to 8-2. It's the second straight loss for the Big Red, who return to Reis Tennis Center next week for a match against UConn.
 
Boston College took two of three doubles matches to open the dual with a 1-0 lead. Ashley Huang and Megan Polnet combined to take home the win at No. 1 doubles, defeating the No. 26-ranked pairing of Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox, 7-5. It's the first doubles win of the season for Huang and Polnet when playing at No. 1 doubles. Cornell lost close matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, falling by scores of 6-4 and 7-5, respectively.
 
Maria Adiaconitei added the lone singles win of the day for Cornell at No. 1 singles, defeating No. 67-ranked Long in three sets (3-6, 7-6(6), 6-2). Adiaconitei is now 4-3 in singles this season, with a 1-0 record when playing in the top spot.
 
Up Next: Cornell returns home next week for a 5 p.m. match against UConn at Reis Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 21. Following the match against UConn, Cornell will travel to West Virginia for a 10 a.m. match on Sunday, Feb. 23. UConn owns a 2-3 record through the early portion of its dual season, while West Virginia is 5-0.
