MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Cornell women's tennis couldn't maintain its momentum from its 6-1 win over UConn on Friday, falling to West Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 23 by a final score of 4-0. A loss on Sunday drops the young Cornell team's dual record to 2-10 on the season.
The lone bright spot of the day came at No. 2 doubles, where
Maria Adiaconitei and
Sarah Campbell opened the match with a quick 6-0 sweep on Sofia Duran and Anastasia Bovolskaia. It's the first time that Adiaconitei and Campbell have paired up this season after the duo went 4-2 last season.
Three singles matches went unfinished as the Mountineers picked up wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles.
Fatima El Ashram was defeated by Bovolskaia at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4, while Campbell lost to Kat Lyman, 6-3, 6-1. Cornell defaulted the match at No. 6 singles.
Up Next: The Big Red concludes its February break trip with a match at James Madison on Monday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. James Madison is currently 6-2 on the season and will play George Washington prior to its match against Cornell.
