#1 Women's Ice Hockey Notches Victory Over St. Lawrence, Set to Host ECAC Hockey Championship Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Grace Graham scored two goals, including a game-winning short-handed goal, to lead the Cornell women's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over St. Lawrence, Saturday evening. With the win, Cornell advances to the ECAC Hockey semifinal, which will take place at Lynah Rink.

After a scoreless first period, Graham opened the game with a power-play goal at 9:06. Sophomore Gillis Frechette took a shot from the top of the slot but Saints goalie Lucy Morgan was able to stop it. Coming off the rebound, Graham grabbed the puck and, with a backhanded shot, snuck it into the net behind Morgan for the first goal.

Before the end of the second, St. Lawrence tied the score at 1-1. Collecting a pass from a breakaway puck, freshman Julia Gosling scored the goal with 3:02 on the second-period clock.

Coming back from the final break, Cornell scored two straight goals to earn the win. Senior Kristin O'Neill tallied her goal seven and a half minutes into the period. After passing back and forth between each other, senior Micah Zandee-Hart and junior Kendra Nealey passed to O'Neill for the shot. O'Neill put the game up, 2-1, as she found the slim top-corner of the net from the bottom of the faceoff circle.

Graham followed less than four minutes later with her short-handed goal. Senior Jaime Bourbonnais blocked a St. Lawrence shot with her body and it bounced to the blue line. Graham noticed the puck heading towards the Big Red's offensive zone and went skating towards it. Picking up the puck at center ice, Graham scored the goal from the bottom of the slot, lifting the puck up in the air over Morgan's helmet.

In a scuffle in front of the net with six Saints on the ice, St. Lawrence added a goal to make it a one-goal game with just under two minutes left.

For the second game in the ECAC Hockey Best of Three Quarterfinals, Cornell outshot St. Lawrence, 30-13.

Junior goalie Lindsay Browning made 11 saves to secure the victory.

The Big Red returns to action against Yale, Harvard or Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 7 for the ECAC Hockey semifinal match. As the top seed, Cornell will host the ECAC Hockey championship weekend with the semifinal games on Saturday and the championship on Sunday (March 8).
