ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's tennis team swept its competition on a wintry afternoon on Sunday, Feb. 2, defeating both Michigan State and Colgate by 7-0 tallies. Cornell has now won all three of its season-opening matches by 7-0 scores in 2020.
 
Following a pair of wins on Sunday, Cornell improves its season record to a spotless 3-0 in advance of welcoming #14 Michigan to the Reis Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 7. Michigan State's record fall to 3-3 overall and Colgate drops to 1-1.
 
The Big Red opened the day with an early 7-0 sweep of Michigan State. Cornell won all three doubles matches, despite a pair of close calls at No. 1 and No. 2. 
Eero Vasa and 
Daniel Soyfer earned the win at No. 1, defeating John Carlin and Anthony Pero, 7-6. At No. 2, 
Lev Kazakov and 
Alafia Ayeni narrowly defeated Jarreau Campbell and Drew Keene, 7-6. The Big Red had a bit more room to breathe at No. 3 doubles, as 
Pietro Rimondini and 
Evan Bynoe defeated Josh Mukherjee and Kazuki Matsuno, 6-3.
 
Cornell won each of its singles matches in straight sets, featuring wins from Vasa, Ayeni, Kazakov, Bynoe, 
Daniel Soyfer and Rimondini.
 
Returning to the court after the sweep of MSU, Cornell continued its day of dominance with a 7-0 victory over Colgate on Sunday afternoon. After the Big Red took home a 3-0 sweep in doubles, Cornell shook up its singles lineup to give extra guys and opportunity to showcase their skill.
 
Bynoe bumped up to No. 1 singles to best Colgate's Scott Bickel in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 10-2. Also moving up a few spots was Soyfer at No. 2 singles, where he defeated Jack Selati in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6. 
Joseph McAllister returned to the singles lineup for the second time this season, earning a victory over Nate Romig at No. 4 singles.
 
Playing in the Big Red singles lineup for the first time this season was Konstantin Kirovki, 
Denton Ho and 
Rohan Sikka. Kirovski earned a win at No. 3 singles, defeating Peter Hartman in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Ho
was victorious at No. 5, besting Rohan Gupta (6-3, 7-6), while Rikka defeated Kun Tan at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3).
