HANOVER, N.H. - Senior
Grace Graham notched one goal and two assists to lead the Cornell women's ice hockey to a 3-0 win at Dartmouth, Saturday night. With the shutout win, the Big Red went home with the 2020 Ivy League title.
After a scoreless first period, Graham opened the scoring 3:45 into the second period. Stealing the puck from a possible change in possession, senior
Jaime Bourbonnais passed the puck to Graham from behind the red line. Graham quick touch sent the puck into the net behind Dartmouth's netminder.
For the remainder of the second period, neither team found the back of the net and Cornell entered the final 20 minutes with a one-goal lead.
In a big play by senior
Kristin O'Neill, the Big Red gained a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes left in regulation. Taking a loose puck off a Big Green stick, Graham earned her second point of the game with a pass to O'Neill, who was at the blue line. O'Neill received the puck only to skate next to the boards until the bottom of the faceoff circle, where she sent the puck into the goal.
In an attempt to tie the score, Dartmouth took the goalie off the ice for the extra skater. But once Cornell gained possession of the puck, the Big Green could not stop the team. Bourbonnais stole the puck and in a struggle to maintain that possession handed it off to senior
Paige Lewis. Graham received the puck from Lewis and sent it to sophomore
Gillis Frechette. Frechette ended up scoring the final goal of the game on an empty net from the right side of the slot with just under two minutes left.
Junior goalie
Lindsay Browning saved 13 shots for her ninth shutout this season, and 10th career shutout.
The Big Red will conclude Ivy League play next weekend with a road trip to Brown (Feb. 14) and Yale (Feb. 14).
