Galajda Named Finalist For ECAC Hockey's Top Goalie Honor

ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior Matthew Galajda has been named one of three finalists for ECAC Hockey's MAC Goaltending Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year award, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Galajda ascended back to national prominence this season after an injury-plagued sophomore year. His 1.52 goals against average for the season (1.56) was tops among all ECAC Hockey goaltenders and second in the nation, and his five shutouts were tied for the most. Three of those clean sheets came in the Big Red's final four games of the season, pulling Galajda into a tie with Ben Scrivens '10 for the program's career records for shutouts with 19.

While sometimes overlooked because of the quality defense in front of him, Galajda has still collected his fair share of accolades this year. He was named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month in November and was twice named the league's Goalie of the Week (Dec. 2 and Jan. 27). He yielded just 24 even-strength goals in 29 games, and he ended the season on a nine-game winning streak.

Galajda is looking to become Cornell's first repeat winner of the league's annual goaltending award since it was first formally recognized in 1996. Other finalists for the ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year Award are Clarkson's Frank Marotte and Rensselaer's Owen Savory. The winner is scheduled to be announced later this week.
