Men's Tennis Wins Fifth Straight in 4-1 Victory over Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa – Cornell men's tennis returned to action on Friday, March 6, taking down Drake University by a final tally of 4-1. The Big Red picked up wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to takedown the Bulldogs.
 
With a win on Friday, Cornell improves to 8-1 this season and runs its winning streak to five straight matches. Drake's record falls to 3-15 with a loss to the Big Red.
 
Vladislav Melnic made his dual season debut for Cornell after a successful Fall campaign that saw him win a pair of matches at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships in October. At No. 4 singles, Melnic defeated Evan Fragistas in two sets, 6-3, 7-6(7).
 
Also picking up two-set victories for the Big Red on Friday was Lev Kazakov, Pietro Rimondini and Daniel Soyfer. Kazakov defeated Reid Jarvis, 6-3, 6-4, while Rimondini took care of Finley Hall, 6-2, 6-2. Soyfer remains unbeaten in the dual season following a 6-3, 6-4 win over Matija Matic at No. 6 singles.
 
Up Next: Cornell continues its run through the Hawkeye State, traveling to Iowa City, Iowa for two more matches. The Big Red will meet Louisville on the University of Iowa Tennis Courts on Saturday, March 7, prior to meeting the Hawkeyes on Sunday, March 8 at noon ET.
