ITHACA, N.Y. - The top-seeded Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to second-seeded Princeton, 3-2, in the ECAC Hockey championship game, Sunday afternoon at Lynah Rink.

The Big Red dominated the first period. The first shot on goal passed the goal line for a score from senior
Kristin O'Neill. With 18:34 on the clock, O'Neill slipped the opening goal past Princeton's goalie, Stephanie Neatby. Taking the puck off a Tiger stick at the Cornell offensive blue line, O'Neill skated to the net with the puck for the shot from just outside the crease.

Just over a minute later, sophomore
Gillis Frechette tallied the Big Red's second, and final, goal of the evening. Senior
Micah Zandee-Hart notched her fourth assist of the weekend when she sent the puck toward the goal for Frechette's redirection.

As the midway point of the opening period approached, Cornell had two penalties in less than 30 seconds to give the Tigers a one minute and 37-second 5-on-3 power play. Overcoming the pressure and with two key defenders in the box - Zandee-Hart and junior
Kendra Nealey - the Big Red killed the man-down situation to close the first period with a 2-0 lead.

The second period saw a 12-10 shot advantage for Cornell but it was Princeton with the lone goal of the middle period. A similar situation in the third period, the Big Red outshot the Tigers 11-7, but a Princeton turnover led to a tied score, 2-2, at the end of regulation.

Assisted by Sharon Frankel and Shannon Griffin, Mariah Keopple scored her fifth goal of the season less than a minute into overtime to win the game for the Tigers.

Lindsay Browning saved 25 shots for the Big Red.

Cornell placed two members on the all-tournament team. Seniors
Kristin O'Neill and
Micah Zandee-Hart capped off their ECAC Hockey careers with the two Big Red spots. O'Neill tallied seven points on six goals and one assist throughout the tournament. Two of her goals were the first goals scored in the semifinal and championship games while she notched one game-winning goal. Zandee-Hart served as a strong defender, totaling six assists throughout the tournament.
The Big Red awaits to see if it will earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will take place at 9 p.m.
