Field Hockey Passes Brown in Double OT, 4-3

ITHACA, N.Y.— After a late push by Brown in the fourth quarter sent the Big Red and the Bears to two overtime periods, Olivia Friedberg scored her second goal of the game as Cornell field hockey took down Brown, 4-3, in double OT at Marsha Dodson Saturday.

Cornell and Brown battled to a scoreless first quarter before Friedberg put the Big Red up 1-0 just over two minutes into the second frame off a pass from Hanke Govaert. Five five minutes later the Bears scored its first of the day before Caroline Ramsey connected for her 15th goal of the season off a penalty corner with assists from Kate MacGillis and Bridget Mahoney to send the Big Red to the break leading 2-1.

Coming out of the half, Cornell scored another when the Big Red set up for another corner. Caroline Ramsey rattled a hard shot that bounced off the goalie's pads and onto the stick of Avery Smith who scored her first goal of the season.

The final frame was all Brown when Imogen Govan potted a goal just before a questionable call by officials brought up a Brown penalty stroke. Aerin Park (5 saves) stopped the first attempt, but Dani van Rootselaar was awarded a redo that made its way into the net after bouncing off Aerin Park's blocker and into the top of the Big Red's cage.

Headed to overtime, the Big Red and the Bears played for an even 10 minutes. Just under three minutes until Cornell would line up for its first game of the season decided by penalty strokes, Bridget Mahoney recived a pass from Caroline Ramsey and shot the ball where Friedberg was able to tip it in and seal the deal to move the BIg Red to 8-6 on the season.

The Big Red tallied 19 shots to Brown's 11, including 12 on goal. Jodi Brine made 12 saves for the Bears.

Cornell meets Harvard at noon on Saturday, Oct. 30.
