ITHACA, N.Y. – After helping guide the Cornell women's volleyball team to a victory over Columbia on Saturday, sophomore setter Rylee Baptiste has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Baptiste's award, which comes after Cornell downed the Lions, 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10), over the weekend, marks the first weekly award for the Big Red this season. Making just her second start of the season and her career, Baptiste set Cornell up for success against the Lions, collecting a match-high and career-best 51 assists.
Baptiste tallied more assists as an individual than the Lions did as a team in the match (47). Her 51 assists is tied for fourth in the conference for a five-set match this season and tied for 10th in the Ivy League among all matches. Baptiste also added seven digs, an ace, and a block in the Big Red win.
The Cornell volleyball team will continue its five-match home stand this weekend when it hosts Yale on Friday at 7 p.m. and Brown on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Newman Arena in Ithaca, N.Y.
