Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

#9 Women's Hockey Passed by Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H.— The Cornell women's hockey team traded goals with Dartmouth all afternoon, but it would be the Big Green who struck last to pass the Big Red, 4-3 at Thompson Arena.

While Gillis Frechette and Izzy Daniel recorded multi-point games, it wouldn't be enough and Cornell fell to 1-3-0 on the season and gave Dartmouth its first victory of the year and first over Cornell at home since 2011.

Gillis Frechette scored one unassisted in the first, Athena Song found a pass from Izzy Daniel for a goal in the second and Rory Guilday scored off a feed from Daniel and Frechette in the third, but after each Big Red tally Dartmouth had a rebuttal of its own.

Four minutes into the game, Gillis Frechette worked the puck behind the Big Green net before she found space and bounced a shot off the leg of Maggie Emerson (14 saves) for her second goal of season.

A few short minutes later at the 12:48 mark, Laura Fuoco gained possession of a pass from Celine Pietraszek and had just one defender on her before she put the move on Lindsay Browning (21 saves) to tie things headed into the first intermission.

With 14:42 left in the second period, Catherine Trevors dished one to Currie Putrah who was able to float a backhander over Browning to make it 2-1.

Just 40 seconds later, Izzy Daniel made a cross-ice pass to Athena Song who fired a shot off from behind the circle for her first career goal. Not long after though, Jenna Donahue and Laura Fuoco found Kezie Bachelor open in front of the Big Red net and she fired a head-on shot that zipped past Browning's blocker to put the Big Green up, 3-2 headed to the final period.

The Big Red converted on one of its two power plays when Rory Guilday scored her second goal of the season after Gillis Frechette dished the freshman a pass near the blue line and she snapped one through traffic to tie the game with 16 minutes left in regulation.

Dartmouth, however, would also convert on a power play in the third period and it proved to be the game's deciding goal.

Gillis Frechette was sent to the box for roughing with 10:33 left in the game and just 12 seconds into the penalty, chaos ensued in the Big Red crease and the puck slid into the net on a goal that would be credited to Gabby Billing.

The win marked the first-ever head coaching victory for Liz Keady Norton.

Cornell will look to bounce back next weekend as it takes on Yale and Brown at Lynah Rink Nov. 5 and 6.
