Newly Ranked Men's Soccer to Face Harvard on Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 24-ranked Cornell men's soccer team returns to Berman Field for a 4 p.m. match against Ivy League adversary Harvard on Saturday, Oct. 9.

• Cornell improved to 6-1-1 on the season following a 3-0 win over Penn on Saturday, Oct. 2.
• Fifth-year midfielder Harry Fuller, sophomore defender Henry Hylbert and senior forward Emeka Eneli did the scoring for the Big Red.
• Fifth-year midfielder Tyler Bagley and junior forward Griffin Garrard contributed assists in the winning effort.

• Cornell moved into the rankings this week, checking in at No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches poll after receiving votes in each of the previous three weeks.
• It's Cornell's first appearance in the rankings since Oct. 4, 2018.
• Cornell ranks No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches Northeast Region behind New Hampshire.
 

Big Red by the Numbers:

• Cornell ranks No. 4 nationally in scoring offense (2.88 goals per game) and is third in shots on goal per game (8.12).
• The Big Red ranks eighth in points per game (7.88) and 16th in total goals scored (23).
• Senior Tyler Bagley ranks fourth nationally in goals per game (1.00) and third in points per game (2.38). His eight goals rank sixth in the country.
 

About Harvard:

• Harvard is 4-3-2 entering Saturday's game with wins over Central Connecticut State (4-0), Merrimack College (2-0), Vermont (2-1, 2OT) and Boston (2-1). The Crimson recently played to a 0-0 tie against Yale in its Ivy League opener.
• Harvard is led by its goalkeeping with Oskar Nilsson boasting a .822 save percentage and a 1.05 goals against average. The Crimson rank No. 2 nationally with 6.25 saves per game. Nilsson is 10th nationally at 5.29 saves per game.
• Gianluca Trofa started Harvard's last match against Boston and was the opening day starter for the Crimson.
• On the flip side, Harvard's scoring offense ranks 93rd nationally with 1.44 goals per game. It's not for a lack of opportunity however as Harvard ranks 11th in shots on goal per game with 7.33 per.
• Alessandro Arlotti is Harvard's leading scorer with four goals and three assists. Arlotti was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for Sept. 27.
• Cornelius Bencsik is second on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists.
 

The Series vs. Harvard:

• Cornell is 25-42-15 all-time against Harvard, but won the last match by a 6-0 tally on Oct. 12, 2019. The Big Red got goals from Vardhin Manoj, Charles Touche, Emeka Eneli (x2), John Scearce, and Griffin Garrard.
 

Defensive Darlings:

• Jonah Kagen, Tate Keir, Henry Hylbert and Kisa Kiingi are the primary starters in Cornell's back line, with Mateo Rodriguez, Nick Allen, Connor Drought, and Cam Maquat also making starts. Hylbert and Kagen have each made seven starts in eight games.
• Keir returned to the lineup against Fairleigh Dickinson and played his first 90 minute match against Penn.
• Goalkeeper Brady McSwain has started all eight of Cornell's matches thus far making 29 saves. McSwain owns a .744 save percentage and a 1.18 goals against average.
 

Midfield Maestros:

• Tyler Bagley, Harry Fuller, Wilson Eisner and Lalo Serrano have been Cornell's consistent starting four in the midfield all season.
• Bagley is the team leader in goals (8), while Fuller has five to his name. 
• Kagen has the ability to shift up into the midfield as well, along with Alioune Ka and Brandon Morales. Morales is tied for the team lead in assists with three.
 

Fast Forwards:

• Emeka Eneli has started all eight games up front for the Big Red and has been joined by Matthew Goncalves, Charles Touche and Brandon Morales in the starting lineup this season.
• Eneli owns five goals and is tied for the team-high in assists with three.
• Griffin Garrard and Alioune Ka have also seen time at the forward position. Ka has one goal to his name while Garrard has one assist.
 

Up Next:

• Cornell meets Colgate (0-11) on Tuesday, Oct. 12 for a 7 p.m. match at Berman Field. Colgate has been outscored by its opponents this season 24-2.
