BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's basketball team won its record sixth game in November behind five double figure scorers in n 89-75 victory over Canisius on Monday evening at Koessler Athletic Center. The Big Red improved to 6-1, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 2-5.
Cornell surpassed its previous best total of five wins in November set by the 2009-10 Ivy League champs with its third road victory of the young season. The Big Red shot .618 from the floor, the 14th-best shooting game in school history.
Kobe Dickson led the double figure scorers with a career high 17 and
Jordan Jones had 14, but it was hometown hero
Greg Dolan who made the biggest impact. The junior guard had 12 points ojn 5-of-5 shooting with eight assists, six rebounds and a blocked shot without committing a turnover in 27 minutes of action. He became the first Cornell player with at least eight assists and zero turnovers in a game since Chris Wroblewski had 10 assists and no miscues on Feb. 10, 2012 in an 85-84 overtime win over Yale.
Sarju Patel chipped in 13 points,
Sean Hansen had 10 off the bench and
Keller Boothby notched eight points and five rebounds in the win. Along with DIckson's 17 points, the senior added five rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and a steal. Cornell connected on 67 percent of its shots after halftime, was credited with 23 assists(the most in a road game since being credited with 25 at Penn on Feb. 26, 2011) and held Canisius to 37 percent from the floor.
The Golden Griffins sliced a 27-point second half deficit to 12, but never got within single digits despite 19 points and seven rebound off the bench by Malek Green and 16 from Scott Hitchon. Jordan Henderson added 10 points. Canisius turned the ball over just five times,but those miscues led to 11 Big Red points. The home team shot just 6-of-29 from 3-point range (.207) and was outrebounded 37-31.
First Half
• Greg Dolan, in a return to his hometown, got the first basket of the game and assisted on the second.
• It was an 8-2 Big Red lead with four different scorers at the first media timeout as Cornell set the tempo early.
• A Keller Boothby 3-pointer in transition made it 13-6 six minutes in, a score that ballooned to 16-6 on Sean Hansen's 3-pointer moments later.
• Consecutive 3-pointers by Canisius got the home team back within 16-12.
• Leading 28-24, Cornell went on an 11-0 run highlighted by a 3-pointer by senior Max Samberg, his first career trey on the heels of a blocked shot on the defensive end by Kobe Dickson.•
• Cornell's lead grew to as many as 16 and settled into the break with a 46-30 edge.
• The visitors shot 57 percent from the floor on the offensive end, and defensively limited Canisius to 29 percent shooting, including 3-of-19 from 3 (and 1-of-13 to end the half).
• Dolan ended with six points, five rebounds and four assists at the break
• Cornell outscored the Golden Griffins 12-0 on the fast break and 22-10 in the paint, including a slew of backdoor baskets.
Second Half
• The second half started with a CHris Manon layup, three consecutive misses on the Canisius end and a Sarju Patel 3-pointer once Cornell rebounded to make it 51-30 a minute into the second half.
• Consecutive 3-pointers by Jordan Jones in the span of 37 seconds made it a 54-30 edge.
• Kobe Dickson banged in a 3-pointer off glass 3:21 in and it was a 26-point game.
• The lead ultimately grew to 27 points at 67-40, but a pair of technical fouls on the Big Red in the span of less than two minutes breathed new life into the home team.
• Canisius clawed within 19 with 10 minutes to play, then to 12 with six minutes remaining.
• Though it didn't end it, Boothby's 3-pointer on the ensuing possession bounced high off the rim and in, a fortuitous bounce that made Cornell extend the lead back to 15.
• Canisius nailed a trey on the other end, but consecutive layups by Dolan all but sealed the win as Cornell held on to improve to 6-1.

• Cornell returns home for consecutive home games this weekend starting with a matchup against Coppin State on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Newman Arena.
• Coppin State has won the only two meetings between the schools on the hardwood, including a 68-66 overtime victory in Baltimore during the 2019-20 campaign.
• The Big Red had 26 offensive rebounds in the contest, tied for the most in a game in school history against a Division I opponent.
