WALTHAM, Mass.— The Cornell fencing program turned in another solid performance at Sunday's Brandeis Invitational, going 5-0 on the day with victories over Wellesley, Brandeis, St John's and Brown.
Cornell had a first-round bye before taking on Wellesley where the team dominated, going 9-0 in sabre, 8-1 in foil and 9-0 in epee for a 26-1 decision. Host Brandeis took down Cornell in sabre, 5-4, to open round three before the Big Red handedly won foil, 9-0, and epee, 7-2 , for a final score of 20-7 and a victory over the Judges. Cornell then dropped MIT in round four, 21-6, after going 6-3 in sabre, 8-1 in foil and 7-2 in epee. The next round saw a close bout where Brown dropped Cornell in both sabre and foil, 4-5, but Cornell was a perfect 9-0 in epee and the team escaped, 17-10. Finally, Cornell ended the day with a 19-8 win over St. John's after going 7-2 in both sabre and foil and 5-4 in epee.
Up Next: Sunday's contest marked the final of the semester for the Cornell fencing program. The team will start things up again on Jan. 22 at the Penn Invitational in Philadelphia.
