ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's cross country, track & field, and swimming & diving alumna Taylor Knibb '20 added two more medals to her repertoire Saturday, winning the World Triathlon Championship Finals Edmonton to finish second overall in the 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series.

It has been quite the summer for Knibb, who not only became the youngest woman triathlete to ever represent Team USA at the Olympics and earned a silver medal as part of Team USA's Mixed Relay squad at the 2020 Tokyo Games, but found herself on the world championship podium for the first time this past weekend.

Over the course of the 2021 World Triathlon Championship Series, Knibb raced in four of the possible five events, and even more impressive, medaled in three of the four in which she competed. Her success started in May when she won the World Triathlon Championship Series Yokohama, clinching an automatic spot on the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team. Knibb finished 16th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and only got stronger from there. She earned silver at the World Championship Series Montreal last weekend, and secured her spot on the World Triathlon Series Podium with a dominating win on Saturday in Edmonton.

Knibb's winning time in Edmonton (1:54.47) bested the entire field by 56 seconds. She built a massive lead on the cycling portion of the race, as she entered the 10-kilometer run with a 2 minute, 44 second lead over the chase pack. Knibb made it quite clear at that point that she would not be caught and was on her way to victory.

With her gold medal performance in Edmonton, Knibb moved up two spots in the overall World Triathlon Championship Series rankings to claim silver on the overall podium with 3,486 points. 2020 Olympic Triathlon Champion Flora Duffy of Bermuda won her third world title with 3,861 points, while fellow American Taylor Spivey joined Knibb on the podium, taking the bronze with 3,239 points.

Only 23 years old, Knibb is the youngest athlete among the top 40 of the 2021 World Triathlon Series Rankings. Her future is undoubtedly bright, and with a competitive spirit, will to succeed, and positive outlook, the sky's the limit for Knibb.

"I've just been enjoying races and having fun and trying to execute to the best of my ability and I'm grateful for the opportunities we even have to race," said Knibb in an interview with USA Triathlon.
