Men's Soccer Travels to Fairleigh Dickinson for Regional Clash

ITHACA, N.Y. - After playing three games in six days last week, the Cornell men's soccer team got some much needed rest prior to its upcoming road match against Fairleigh Dickinson University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 18.

• Cornell went 2-0 last weekend, defeating Saint Joseph's (2-1) and UC Santa Barbara (4-3, 2OT).
• Tyler Bagley and Matthew Goncalves scored goals for the Big Red against SJU, with Goncalves scoring the game-winning goal in the 75th minute. Bagley had six shots total.
• Cornell out-shot St. Joe's 21-14 overall and 11-8 in shots on goal.
• Bagley (2x), Harry Fuller and Henry Hylbert scored goals for Cornell against UCSB. with Hylbert scoring the game-winner in double OT.  Fuller and Bagley each scored on a PK.

About The Big Red:

•  Cornell finished the 2019 season with a record of 10-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Ivy League. The Big Red placed third in the Ivy League, its best finish since 2012 when Cornell won the conference championship.
•  Cornell returns 17 players from the 2019 season while adding 19 newcomers into the program. The Big Red returns 9,282 minutes played of a possible 16,525.
•  Junior Connor Drought (second team), senior Emeka Eneli (honorable mention), and fifth year Harry Fuller (honorable mention) return as All-Ivy League selections in 2019. Fifth year Charles Touche (first team) and senior Tate Keir (second team) were All-Ivy League selections in 2018.
•  Cornell was chosen to finish second in the Ivy League for the 2021 season in the preseason media poll. The Big Red garnered 97 points with one first place vote to finish behind Yale.
•  Seniors Emeka Eneli and Jonah Kagen were named co-captains for the 2021 season.
 

Tyler Bagley Sweeps Player of the Week Honors:

• Following a week in which he scored five goals and assisted on two others, fifth year midfielder Tyler Bagley earned Ivy League Player of the Week, Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week.
• It's the first National Team of the Week honor for a member of the Big Red since 2012.
 

Big Red in the Rankings:

• Cornell ranks No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Northeast Region behind New Hampshire and Vermont. The Big Red recevied one vote in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
• The Big Red rank ahead of Yale, Penn and Brown in the regional rankings.
 

Defensive Darlings:

• Kisa Kiingi, Jonah Kagen, Mateo Rodriguez, Henry Hylbert and Nick Allen each drew starts in the Big Red back line last week
• Hylbert scored the game-winning goal against UC Santa Barbara in double OT on a header in the 102nd minute.
• Goalkeeper Brady McSwain has started all four of Cornell's matches thus far making 16 saves. McSwain owns a .696 save percentage and a 1.65 goals against.
 

Midfield Maestros:

• Tyler Bagley, Harry Fuller, Wilson Eisner and Lalo Serrano drew starts in Cornell's midfield last week.
• Bagley is the team leader in goals (5), while Fuller has two to his name. 
• Brandon Morales has been the main substitute in the midfield and recently made a start at forward against High Point. Morales is tied for the team lead in assists with two.
 

Fast Forwards:

•  Charles Touche and Emeka Eneli have started all four matches at forward for the Big Red.
•  Eneli owns one goal and is tied for the team-high in assists with two.
•  Griffin Garrard. Alioune Ka and Matthew Goncalves have also seen time at the forward position, with Ka and Goncalves each owning one goal.
 

About Fairleigh Dickinson:

• The Knights are 2-3-1 this season with wins over Army West Point (1-0) and Lafayette (3-0). Fairleigh Dickinson owns losses against NJIT (4-1), Penn (3-2) and Fordham (2-1).
• In their last time out, Fairleigh Dickinson drew 1-1 with Lehigh in double overtime. Kevin Leonhard scored the first goal of the game in the 2nd minute of action.
• Diego Arribas is the team-leader in points with five on one goal and three assists. Noah Chia and Joshua Ferreira each have two goals to their name.
• The Knights have started three different goalkeepers this season with Vinicius Cadengue playing in four games, owning a 1.07 goals against and a .800 save percentage.
