HANOVER, N.H.— The Cornell field hockey team came out victorious during its first road game of the year, passing Dartmouth 3-1 to open Ivy League play Sunday.
Dartmouth came out with the early advantage when Holley Cromwell scored off a pass from Gracyn Campbell to put the Big Green up 1-0. The following three quarters, though, were all Cornell as the Big Red went on to outshoot the Big Green, 10-2.
The Big Red came alive in the second quarter when
Isabella Palde scored on a feed from
Natalie Stone to tie things at one apiece. Not long after,
Meadow Maguire buried one to give Cornell the upper hand. Maguire fired off a backhander after an
Olivia Friedberg shot bounced off the leg pad of the Dartmouth keeper.
Palde and Maguire's goals were the first scored from open play by the Big Red this season.
Over the course of the game's 60 minutes, Cornell tallied five corners while Dartmouth had zero.
Caroline Ramsey netted her fifth goal of the season off penalty corner in the fourth quarter to seal the deal and give Cornell a 1-0 start to conference play.
Kate MacGillis and
Bridget Mahoney notched the assists.
The Big Red hit the road again on Wednesday, this time visiting Lock Haven at 7 p.m.
